ScholarshipsUndergraduate ScholarshipsAll-USA College Academic Team. All-USA College Academic Team is open to full-time undergraduates at four-year institutions in the USA and its territories. The criteria are designed to find students who excel in scholarship and in leadership roles. Letters of recommendation are required. Selected students receive $2,500. Applications will be available in mid-September and are due in mid-November. Elie Wiesel Prize in Ethics. A total of $10,000 in first, second, and third prizes and two honorable mentions are awarded annually. Applicants must be full-time juniors or seniors and must submit a 3,000-4,000 word essay in the form of a case study, a personal experience, or an analysis that deals with an ethical dilemma. This year's suggested topics are as follows: How is ethics a source of hope, and hope a source of ethics? Examine the ethical aspects or implications of a major literary work, a film, or a significant piece of art? What is terrorism and what is the ethical response to it? Reflect on the most profound moral dilemma you have encountered and analyze what it has taught you about ethics. Awards of up to $2,000 are given annually to low-income women undergraduate students who have a vision of how their education will benefit themselves, their families, and their communities. however, they require that you set up a profile to access the information. URCA Administered Scholarships and AwardsUndergraduate Research and Creative Activities Awards. University grants are available for student-initiated research and creative projects done under UCSB faculty supervision, including research for departmental honors programs. Truman Fellowship supports study beginning in the senior year of college and extending through two or three years of graduate study, for students who intend careers in government, the nonprofit sector, or elsewhere in public service. For sophomores or juniors interested in a career in mathematics, natural sciences, or engineering. Applications are available online at www.act.org/goldwater . The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace offers a full-time postbaccalaureate fellowship providing total immersion in international affairs topics such as international economic reform, democracy building, and nuclear nonproliferation. Supports two years of graduate study for students who are either holders of green cards, naturalized citizens, or children of two naturalized citizen parents. Provides up to $50,000 annually for tuition, room and board, required fees, and books for up to six years for students pursuing graduate or professional degrees. Campus deadline is April 1, 2005. Udall Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for educational expenses to sophomores and juniors who either (1) study the environment and related fields; or (2) are Native Americans or Alaska Natives in fields related to health care or tribal public policy. Strauss Public Service Scholarship Foundation annually awards fifteen $10,000 scholarships to California college juniors who have demonstrated an interest in public service, have outstanding leadership potential, can demonstrate effective communication skills, and wish to "make a difference" in local, regional or national communities. Campus deadline is January 28, 2005. www.straussfoundation.org The Beinecke Scholarship program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated undergraduate students (juniors) particularly those in the arts, humanities or social sciences to pursue graduate school opportunities. Each scholar receives $2,000 immediately prior to entering graduate school and an additional $30,000 while attending graduate school.
