An Invitation to Volunteer at Santa Barbara's Sea Center

by Jasmine Vasavada

Do you have a passion for the natural world or our marine environment? I am writing to invite students in the College Honors Program to join our volunteer Sea Crew at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History Ty Warner Sea Center on Stearns Wharf. Our volunteers serve as educators and interpreters, inviting grade school students and visitors to participate in hands-on investigations of the tidepool treasures of the Santa Barbara Channel and helping them use real oceanographic equipment to investigate the waters underneath Stearns Wharf.

We are looking for students who can commit to working a minimum of three hours per week for four months. No marine science background is necessary--we will teach you what you need to know in two exhibitry trainings and an online marine science curriculum. We are looking for mature young adults who love working with and teaching other people and who would like to make a difference this fall!

To learn more or to sign up for a training session, please contact the Sea Center Volunteer Coordinator Stacy Bilben (UCSB '05) at (805) 962-2526 x104 or email seacrew@sbnature2.org. You can also visit our website at http://sbnature.org/seacenter
