FALL 2005, Volume 19, Number 1

Meet Samantha Morgan, UCDC Peer . . .

and Learn How to Apply to Spend a Quarter in the Nation's Capital

Interested in spending a quarter in the nation's capital, interning in a federal office or agency and learning about the workings of government or a cultural institution? Consider applying to the UCDC program.

A good place to begin is by talking to someone who's been there. Samantha Morgan is the UCDC peer. She spent Winter of 2005 working in the congressional office of George Radanovich, the representative from her home town of Turlock. This gave her the opportunity to give Capitol tours, attend press briefings and receptions held on the Hill, write press releases, and do research for office staffers.

Working and studying in Washington gave Samantha a good sense of how many career opportunities are available there, and allowed her to make enough contacts to feel very comfortable about the prospect of returning there to pursue her career some day.

Samantha also reports having "memorable experiences" almost every day she lived in DC. She remembers riding the Metro down to the National Mall during the winter's first snow, walking around the snow-covered monuments. Or taking a run without knowing where she was going, and ending up in front of the White House.

Samantha looks forward to discussing with how you can have your own experiences in Washington, D.C. Visit with her in the UCDC Office, North Hall 2110.
