How to Graduate with All the Honors Letters and Science Has to Offer

  • Academic Excellence Award. Awarded to College Honors Program students who take 36 honors units at UCSB (at least 20 units must be upper-division) with a grade of B or better, have a 3.50 overall GPA at the time of graduation, and fulfill the service requirement. Modified requirements exist for transfer students who joined the program at the time of admission to UCSB and for students who study abroad for one year on UC's Education Abroad Program (EAP).

  • Honors at Graduation. Automatically awarded to students who have competed a minimum of 76 letter-graded UC units and are in the top 20% of the graduating class. For 2007-2008 graduates, the top 2.5% (3.87 GPA and above) will receive Highest Honors, the next 6% (3.70-3.86 GPA) will receive High Honors, and the next 11.5% (3.51-3.69 GPA) will receive Honors.

  • College Honors. Given to Letters and Science undergraduates who have completed 135 or more letter-graded UC units with a grade-point average of at least 3.85.

  • Distinction in the Major. Awarded to members of departmental honors programs who complete their project or paper with distinction.
