This cycle was especially challenging for us because of the continuing budget cuts. However, thanks to Executive Vice Chancellor Gene Lucas, Acting Vice Chancellor for Research Steve Gaines, and Divisional Deans David Marshall, Martin Moskovits, and Melvin Oliver, along with several generous donors, we had enough money to support all projects that received approval from the faculty reviewers. Overall, we funded 105 of the 110 applications and awarded a total of approximately $99,700. We have another competition for URCA grants in the winter quarter. Students receiving funding will have the opportunity to present the results of their research and creative activities this spring at the annual UCSB Undergraduate Research Colloquium. This year the Colloquium will be held on Thursday, May 12. Further information about both URCA grants and the Colloquium can be found on the URCA website, www.LTSC.ucsb.edu/urca or by contacting the URCA Office at 2105 North Hall.
