On-Going Community Affairs Board Projects

Breakfast Club

What: Volunteers are needed to help give breakfast to the homeless. More importantly than providing food, we will be offering our time and companionship. This is done in hopes of connecting our volunteers with the homeless community through a friendly smile and giving heart.
When: Every Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.

Family Literacy Program

What: Tutoring program for elementary school children. Volunteers are paired up with a child in the local community and they read with that child once per week.
When: All quarter, will contact you about orientation.
Where: Homes of the children who need tutors located in Isla Vista and Goleta.

Boys and Girls Club

What: Tutor, read to kids, and play sports with them for the after-school program at the Boys and Girls Club downtown.
When: Thursdays at 4:00 p.m.

DAWG

What: Complete the orientation session and then volunteer to walk/play with dogs and clean kennels.
When: Orientations are every first and third Saturday of the month at the shelter at 10:00 a.m. After orientation you can go to the shelter Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from noon until five, or by appointment, to play with/walk the dogs.

ASAP

What: Volunteers will help take care of cats-feeding, cleaning, and playing.
Where: SB County Animal Shelter, 5473 Overpass Road.

BUNS

What: Volunteers' duties include changing the bunnies’ water, giving pellets, washing and distributing vegetables, helping with grooming, putting bunnies out to exercise, cleaning litter pans, trays and bunny cages.

Arts for Humanity

What: this outreach organization celebrates humanity through the arts with programs that cultivated creativity and empower people with developmental disabilities, at-risk youth, the elderly and others in partnership with local artists and the Santa Barbara community. No experience in the arts is necessary to volunteer.

Reading Through Recycling Program

What: Volunteers are needed to deliver recycle books to prisons on their way home. The Substance Abuse Facility imprisons specifically the mentally ill and developmentally disabled. Volunteers are also needed 8 hours a week everyday but Sunday to sort through recycled books.
When: Volunteers are needed to be on call for deliveries, and everyday but Sunday.
Where: Deliver to prisons around California, and sorting at the MarBorg recycling yard in Goleta.
